Carbon Steel

Carbon steel is divided into high carbon steel, medium carbon steel and low carbon steel. The higher the carbon content, the higher the hardness, strength and wear resistance of the steel after heating treatment, and the more brittle it is. The lower the carbon content, the softer and more ductile it is.

Carbon Steel Features

High carbon steel refers to steel with a long tempering time and high carbon content (0.6%~2%), which can be quenched and tempered. The main uses are general bearings, knives (carbon tool steel), rails, steel frame molds (used to shape steel) and steel doors. Among them, hammers, crowbars, etc. are made of steel with a carbon content of 0.75%; cutting tools such as drills, taps, reamers, etc. are made of steel with a carbon content of 0.90% to 1.00%.

Medium carbon steel refers to steel with a shorter tempering time than high carbon steel, a moderate carbon content (0.3%~0.6%), and properties between high carbon steel and low carbon steel. The main use is to make stainless steel.

Low carbon steel is a carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.02%~0.3% and a short tempering time. It is soft, stamping-resistant and ductile. It is used for cold processing and welding structures, such as steel bars, stamping-resistant parts, special steels, etc. Surface carburization can be performed to improve wear resistance.

Carbon Steel Applications

It is commonly used on metal parts that require strength, hardness and wear resistance, such as cutting tools, cables, piano wires, springs and knives. After processing, the parts usually need to be processed and tempered.
