Cast flanges feature rough external shapes but precise dimensions, require minimal machining, and offer low costs; however, they are prone to casting defects (such as porosity) and cracks (often due to inclusions), and their internal structure is suboptimal (resulting in poor grain flow characteristics after cutting).
Forged flanges generally have a lower carbon content than cast flanges, are less prone to rusting, possess a favorable grain flow structure, and are relatively dense, resulting in superior mechanical properties.
However, improper forging processes can lead to coarse or unevenly distributed grains and hardening cracks, potentially resulting in a higher incidence of defects compared to cast flanges.
