What is a carbon steel flange?

The types and manufacturing processes of carbon steel flanges are similar to those of other flanges; the key difference lies in the raw material—various grades of carbon steel. Commonly used materials include cast carbon steel (grade WCB) and forged materials such as A105, Q235B, A3, 10#, 20#, 45#, and Q345B.

Carbon steel flanges are the most common type of flange product; they offer excellent performance characteristics that can be further enhanced through post-processing. For instance, galvanizing can improve corrosion and high-temperature resistance, while anti-corrosion oils or paints can also be applied.

Carbon steel flanges are cost-effective and highly malleable, allowing for production in a wide range of specifications. Carbon steel is also recyclable, although the process requires several specific steps.

Manufacturing methods for carbon steel flanges include forging, casting, rolling from medium plates, and cutting from medium plates. In terms of cost, forged products are the most expensive, followed by rolled plate products, with cast products being the least expensive. Regarding quality, forgings rank highest, followed by rolled products and then castings; however, forgings typically have smaller diameters.
