When using slip-on flanges, we may overlook some of the specifications used, so what should we pay attention to when using slip-on flanges?
Here are some features of slip-on flanges:
Easy to install: Slip-on flanges are relatively easy to install because they can be easily slipped over the end of the pipe and then welded in place. This makes them a popular choice for applications that do not require frequent disassembly and reassembly.
Welding: Slip-on flanges have a circular welding groove inside that allows them to be properly welded to the pipe. The pipe is usually inserted into the flange before welding to form a strong joint.
Low cost: Slip-on flanges are generally more cost-effective than other types of flanges because they are simpler in design and easier to install.
Pressure rating: Slip-on flanges have a variety of pressure ratings to meet the requirements of piping systems. They can handle a range of pressures depending on the material and design specifications.
Application: These flanges are often used in applications with lower pressure and temperature requirements, such as water supply, wastewater treatment, and some industrial processes.
Precautions for slip-on flanges
1. To prevent corrosion between weld eyes caused by heating of the flange cover, the welding current should not be too large, which is 20% smaller than that of carbon steel electrodes, the arc should not be too long, and each layer should be cooled quickly, with narrow welds being preferred.
2.The welding rod should be kept dry when in use. The titanium calcium type should be dried and stored at 150℃ for 1 hour, and the low a hydrogen type should be dried and stored at 200-250℃ for 1 hour to prevent the welding rod coating from sticking oil and other dirt, avoiding increasing the carbon content in the weld and affecting the quality of the weld.
3. When welding flat-welded flange pipe fittings, carbides are precipitated under repeated heating, which reduces the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the product.
4. After welding the chrome-plated slip ring flange pipe, the flange hardening layer is large and the flange is easy to crack. If the same type of chromium stainless steel welding rod (G202, G207) is used for welding, it is necessary to preheat above 300℃ and slowly cool at about 700℃ after welding. If the weldment cannot be heat treated after welding, the flat-welded flange pipe welding rod (A107, A207) should be used.
5. For slip-welded flanges, in order to improve corrosion resistance and weldability, appropriate amounts of stable elements Ti, Nb, Mo, etc. are added, and the weldability is better than that of chromium flat-welded flanges. When using the same type of chromium flat welding flange electrodes (G302, G307), it is necessary to preheat above 200℃ and temper at about 800℃ after welding. If the weldment is not heat treated, flat welding flange pipe electrodes (A107, A207) should be used.
