A long-radius elbow has a radius of curvature equal to 1.5 times the pipe's outer diameter (R = 1.5D), while a short-radius elbow has a radius of curvature equal to the pipe's outer diameter (R = 1.0D), where D is the elbow diameter and R is the radius of curvature. Based on pressure ratings, there are approximately seventeen classifications—aligning with US pipe standards—including Sch5s, Sch10s, Sch10, Sch20, Sch30, Sch40s, STD, Sch40, Sch60, Sch80s, XS, Sch80, Sch100, Sch120, Sch140, Sch160, and XXS; among these, STD and XS are the most commonly used. Categorized by angle, there are 45°, 90°, and 180° elbows.
Materials used include grades such as 10#, 20#, A3, Q235A, 20g, 20G, 16Mn, ASTM A234, ASTM A105, and ASTM A403. Elbows manufactured from these materials are classified as carbon steel elbows.
