Cutting method of large diameter tee

The cutting method for large-diameter tees requires selecting the appropriate technology based on the material, process requirements, and site conditions. The following are several common methods and key operating points:

1. Mechanical Cutting (for metal pipes)

Plasma Cutting

Applicable Applications: Conductive materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel, with diameters ≥ 200mm.

Advantages: Fast speed, smooth cuts, and suitable for thick-walled pipes.

Key Points: Requires dedicated plasma equipment. Maintain a stable distance between the nozzle and the workpiece during cutting, and ensure proper fume extraction.

Oxyacetylene Flame Cutting

Applicable Applications: Large-diameter carbon steel tees (typically > 300mm).

Advantages: Low cost and portability.

Key Points: Requires flame temperature adjustment, and post-cutting polishing of the oxide layer; not suitable for stainless steel or high-alloy steel.

CNC Wire Cutting/Laser Cutting

Applicable Applications: High-precision mass production.

Advantages: High cut accuracy and programmable complex shapes.

Key Points: High equipment cost, suitable for factory prefabrication. 2. Waterjet Cutting (Highly Versatile)

Applicable for: Metals, composite materials, or special materials (such as fiberglass, polyethylene).

Advantages: No thermal deformation, environmentally friendly, and smooth cut surfaces.

Key Points: Requires a high-pressure water pump system, slow cutting speed, and higher cost.

3. Sawing (Suitable for Thick-Walled Pipes)

Band Saw/Circular Saw Cutting

Applicable for: Metal or plastic tees with diameters larger than DN500.

Key Points: Choose a saw blade with an appropriate tooth density and cut at a low speed to avoid overheating the material.

4. Manual Cutting (Emergency or Small-Batch)

Angle Grinder + Cutting Disc

Applicable for: Temporary on-site repairs or small-diameter tees.

Key Points: Marking is required, requiring experienced operators, and the cut may require subsequent polishing.

Key Steps

Marking:

Use a template or CAD layout to accurately mark the cutting line on the tee surface (including the main pipe opening and branch pipe interface).

Securing the Workpiece:

Use a clamp or bracket to stabilize the tee to prevent shifting during cutting. Cutting Order:

First, cut the main opening, then process the branch ends to ensure matching butt grooves.

Bevel Preparation:

Before welding, grind the groove (usually 30°-45°) to remove burrs and oxide layers.

Precautions:

Safety precautions: Wear goggles and fire-resistant gloves. Flame cutting is prohibited in flammable environments.

Deformation Control: It is recommended to cut thick-walled pipe in sections to reduce thermal stress and deformation.

Standard Reference: Follow standards such as GB/T 12459 (Steel Butt-Welding Fittings) or ASME B16.9.

Select the cutting method based on actual needs. CNC cutting is recommended for mass production, while portable plasma or flame cutting can be considered for on-site repairs.
