The basic manufacturing process for carbon steel pipe elbows is as follows: First, polygonal annular shells or polygonal sector shells sealed at both ends are welded together. After filling the interior with a pressure medium, internal pressure is applied. Under the action of internal pressure, the cross-section gradually changes from polygonal to circular, eventually forming a circular annular shell. As needed, the circular annular shell can be cut into four 90-degree elbows, six 60-degree elbows, or other specifications of elbows. This process is suitable for manufacturing large elbows of various specifications with a pitch circle diameter to inner diameter ratio greater than 1.5, and is currently the ideal method for manufacturing large carbon steel pipe elbows.
The advantages of the carbon steel pipe elbow manufacturing process are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. It does not use pipe blanks as raw materials, saving the cost of pipe-making equipment and molds, and obtaining carbon steel elbows with arbitrarily large diameters and relatively thin wall thicknesses.
2. The blank is a flat or developable plane, therefore blanking is simple, accuracy is easily guaranteed, and assembly and welding are convenient.
3. Based on the above two reasons, this method can shorten the manufacturing cycle and significantly reduce production costs. Because no special equipment is required, this method is particularly suitable for on-site fabrication of large carbon steel elbows.
